Regulations for competition

XI MRAVINSKY INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR YOUTH

The competition is held in 2 nominations:
"woodwind instruments" (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon)
"brass wind instruments" (French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba).

In the nomination "woodwind instruments" - two age categories:
up to 16 years old inclusive;
17- 21 years old inclusive.

In the nomination "brass wind instruments" -
with specialization in French horn and trumpet - two age categories:

up to 16 years old inclusive;
17- 21 years old inclusive.
with specialization in trombone and tuba - one age category up to 21 years old inclusive.

The participant's age is determined as of the date of completion of the competition - 12 November 2018.

The sequence of participants' performances is set by a draw. The competitor takes part in the draw in person.

The competition is preceded by qualifying selection based on video-audition.

For the qualifying selection, a participant must provide recordings of performance of two compositions selected by him/her.

Note: these compositions may not be included into the competition programme.

The competition is held in three rounds. The third round - performance with the orchestra.

The II round will host not more than half of the first round participants.

The III round will host not more than 5 participants for each nomination: "woodwind instruments", "brass wind instruments".

The competition will be held at the Concert hall of St. Petersburg School of Arts for Children named after E. A. Mravinsky. The hall houses 430 seats.

The awarding ceremony and the final concert of the laureates will be held at the Grand Hall of St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic Society named after D. D. Shostakovich. The winners of the competition who won I-III places are awarded with the title of Laureate, a diploma and money reward.

The competition participants who won IV and V places are awarded with the title of Prize-winner and a diploma.

The teachers and concertmasters who taught the laureates and prize-winners are awarded respectively with diplomas and certificates of merit.

The prize money constitutes 10,000 Euros.

Participation fee is 80 Euros (for representatives of Russia - in roubles, at the rate set by the Central Bank of Russia as at the date of dispatch).

APPLICATIONS

1. The deadline for dispatch of application with recorded composition - before 1 June, 2018.
The date of dispatch is deemed to be fixed in the postal stamp.
2. The following is attached to the application:
- photograph of participant of the competition for a booklet (in JPG format, resolution 300 dpi, size 1.5 - 3 Mb);
- copy of birth certificate or passport;
- creative achievements reference certified by the head of the educational institution, or testimonials by two prominent musicians;
- video recording for the qualifying selection round
3. The participation fee is paid after the participant's arrival at the competition.

The contenders who have not sent the full set of documents are not admitted to participation in the qualifying round.
If the contender has failed to pass the qualifying round, the fee is not returned.

4. The stated programme must strictly conform to the planned performance at the competition: the transfer of compositions from one round to another, replacement and repetition of compositions is not permitted.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to broadcast the competition audition performances and concerts on television and radio and make relevant video and audio materials with their distribution, without any extra fee.

The performance of competition participants is judged by two juries - for each nomination separately. The jury includes well-known Russian and foreign musicians.

The jury has the right: to award not all prizes and diplomas; to share one award between the participants, to award diplomas for the best performance of particular items of the competition programme.
