Festival "European Concerts in St. Petersburg"
This festival pursues one of the priority goals in EMCY activity - promotion of the talented young artistes, and strengthening the international connections between the representatives of various musical cultures and schools of performance arts.
Festival concerts are held on annual basis in one of the European countries.
Those invited for participation in the concerts are winners of the national and international contests.
In addition to solo performances, participants of the concerts often come together to play music, getting engaged in performance of ensemble and orchestral compositions.
The festival "European Concerts in St. Petersburg", held on 10 - 12 December 2009 became a spectacular example of promotion and support of the young talents.
The festival was organized by the Culture Committee of the Government of St. Petersburg, and the members of the EMCY - International Youth Contest named after E.A. Mravinsky and International Young Pianists' Contest "Step towards mastership"
Winners of the national and international EMCY festivals and contests from Russia, Belarus, Germany and Poland were invited as participants of the festival "European Concerts in St. Petersburg".
All the young musicians have already had impressive achievements in their musical career: contest prizes, musical tours, solo performances, performance in the renowned ensembles and orchestras.
Russia was represented in the Festival by winners of the prestigious international contests, winners of the priority national project "Education": Alexey Zhilin (cello), Polina Bolotova (violin) and Dmitry Serebrennikov (violin), Dmitry Ganenko (cello), Alexey Nikiforov (trumpet), Alexey Lobikov (trombone).
Young participants of the "European concert" were given the unique opportunity - to perform in the St.- Petersburg Grand Philharmonic Hall named after D.D. Shostakovich, together with the Symphony Orchestra.
The festival concerts were also held in the halls of Mravinsky Children's Arts School and Children's Arts School ¹ 4.
